Why choose polished concrete?

There are many reasons why polished concrete should be your first choice of flooring. Whether you are building a stylish home, or you have a high end retail store, or you are constructing a large warehouse, talk to Jamie at Floorman Waikato about your polished concrete flooring options.

1. Hard-wearing and slip-resistant

Polished concrete floors are extremely robust and have a very long lifetime, outlasting most other flooring options available. They won’t chip, dent or wear out, and depending on the finish can be water-proof, slip-resistant, and/or chemical resistant, ensuring they are the ideal flooring choice for a wide range of applications.
2. Low maintenance and easy to clean

Polished concrete is a low maintenance flooring option and are super easy to clean. A quick broom sweep or dust mop daily, and a weekly damp mop will remove dust, dirt, water marks and scuffs and keep your floors sparkling clean. Polished concrete floors are also promoted for a healthier home or workplace as they don't harbour dust mites, allergens or mould. For this reason they are a great flooring option for hospitality venues, medical centres and food warehouses.
3. Excellent thermal and light reflection properties

Polished concrete floors are thick (unlike tiles) and do not change temperature quickly or dramatically. They can absorb heat from the sun during the day and slowly release it during the night giving them excellent thermal properties. Polished concrete floors also have excellent light reflection properties - and this improved lighting can reduce the cost of energy bills, increase safety, and brighten up your home or business.
4. Affordable and cost effective

Polished concrete flooring is affordable and cost effective - especially if you already have a concrete slab anyway! Some of the cost savings occur because of polished concrete's longevity and low maintenance with the only reason being to replace it is if you get tired of the look.
5. Professional and stylish looking

Polished concrete is timeless and doesn't date like many other flooring fashions. A polished concrete floor will suit most home styles and furnishings, and easily be dressed up with rugs if that is your preference. Polished concrete can be used inside and outside, and is ideal for creating a very professional look for a commercial premises.
6. Many colour and aggregate options

Ground polished concrete is not always mid grey - if laying new concrete you can colour it, and different aggregates can alter the look - adding coloured glass or crushed shell can create a dramatic effect. Jamie at Floorman Waikato is happy to give advice prior to builds re: foundations and the concrete look you're trying to achieve.

Polished concrete for residential homes

Gone are the days when polished concrete was only seen in auto showrooms or retail spaces. Polished concrete floors are now popular in residential homes and can create a stunning modern look for both inside and outside areas. Besides cost savings on not needing traditional floor covering materials when the slab on grade is used as the finished floor surface, polished concrete floors are durable, hygienic, and easy to clean.

Commercial and industrial polished concrete applications

Using polished concrete for flooring in commercial and industrial spaces has a multitude of advantages which is why it's the number one option most businesses choose. Polished concrete flooring is cost effective, low maintenance, sustainable, easy to clean, more resistant to high foot traffic, long lasting, and looks very professional.

You can choose the level of sheen — from satin to high-gloss — we are happy to explain the differences in maintenance and aesthetics.
